good points, but I have to disagree about the Closer discussion. I know that the general fantasy philosophy if you will is to never keep a Closer, I disagree for a few guys outside of pap. It obviously depends on the format, especially the number of keepers, but I think Nathan and f. rodriguez are keepers. Both are on their 6th season of absolute top-notch production, routinely approach 100 Ks (something some SPs can't claim) and give great support in era and whip, not to mention almost single handely giving you a shot every week in the saves cateogry. Yes, closers can be had in the late rounds and many end up coming from the FA pool, but hardly any can stick around year in and year out like these guys and I think its worth the keeper investment. In a 12-team keeper league a player that is in the top 3 or so at his position, any position, is worth holding on to.

Some good points Chewy, it's always tough and takes some guts to figure out who is for real and who isn't and when to sell/buy. If I could comment futher about Aaron Hill - I think people do not really know him yet as more than a hot start because he plays in Toronto, but this kid is legit and has a history of nothing but top-notch performance. Hill was drafted in the 7th round in 2000, declined and attended LSU where he was a big-time player, including all-american and all SEC, and was again drafted in 2003 with the 13th overall pick, 1st round. He was 2003 prospect of the year, MVP of the futures game, and multiple minor league all-star teams, amongst other honors. He came up in 2005 with the Jays, had a great 2007 and was then hurt in 2008. Will he keep up top 10 production, no, probably not, but he is a guy that I think will stick around and perform as a top 2b for the entire year.

Ouch is putting it softly...misereable first start for Hochevar, but I still think he is worth a pickup. Maybe you sit him, give him a start or two to shake out the nerves, but his potential makes him worth the risk.

Ouch 2 innings and 8 runs in Oakland. He's got a lot to prove to you in that 2nd start

Chewy, if you are interested in Peralta, make me an offer....arguably the best shortstop in the AL the last few years.

Yup, both Hill and Lopez fit the bill on both ends of the spectrum.

If Cabrera keeps hitting for the Indians, he is deserving as well. Also overlooked and providing big dividends is Orlando Hudson.

Good points. I would add Aaron Hill to the list of "gems," though a guy that has been so hot this year (.361 avg, 6 HR, 22 rbis, 19 runs, and 2 sbs) that he is likely no longer available in most leagues and Jose Lopez, a guy I drafted an expected a lot from, as one of the early season disapointments.

Fowler's great until he gets traded to Oakland where his power will disappear and he's told not to steal any bases. Sell em all. You know you want to trade these guys to see what you can get for them.

For me, it all depends upon the price that you have to pay to take a flier on one of these young, "stud" prospects. Every year there are a handful of guys that the hype is so great, they are drafted way too early and it usually doesn't pay off. Of course, there are instant success players, but then a lot more guys that take a few years to develop or justify their draft position (I think a lot of owners are still waiting for "King Felix" to justify his year to year keeper status). Price is one that I think is worth holding on for as long as it takes. Unlike a lot of guys, the question isn't talent or readiness, the question is how long the Rays, in the super-competitive AL East, can justify keeping arguably the top pitching prospect in recent memory in the farms as a business decision to delay arbitration eligibility. I think he'll be up sooner rather than later and while success is certainly not guaranteed, I think the wait will be worth it.
