In case you missed it, Luke Hochevar, recently re-called to the Royals and the subject of several of my earlier posts, was flatout brilliant last night.
Hochevar threw a complete game, giving up only 3 hits, 1 run (on a solo HR), and 1 walk. He only managed 3 K’s, but needed only 80 pitches to throw 9 innings – althgough his pitch count does not help you in fantasy baseball, his effeciency is a great sign. This start comes after a solid start at Tor. where Hochevar went 6.2 innings for the win, giving up only 4 hits and 2 runs, with 2 walks.
So, where does this leave Hochevar’s fantasy value? Clearly he has the potential to be a tremendous help to a fantasy squad, complete game 4-hitters do not fall off the waiver wire every day, but he does need to establish some consistency and prove that he belongs longterm. My advice, if you have a spot, get him now. Yes, I said that before and he bombed horribly (see his first start on May 12, 8 earned runs in 8 innnings…) but the upside is just too great to ignore and with 2 straight wins, 1 dominant and 1 solid performance, the window to grab a potential ace free of charge is closing.
