Rodriguez, so far, so good.

It seemed that coming into the season many fantasy experts and regular joes alike felt that K-Rod would not live up to the hype coming to NYC after his record-breaking year in 2008.  His velocity was supposedly down and his k/9 down as well.  He was, by many accounts, expected to drop in the Closer rankings outside of the top 5 after Soria and Lidge, among others.

Well, so far, so good and it seems that the predictions have been wrong.  K-Rod is 13 for 13 in save opps, and while the Mets seem to be in shabbles, he continues to get regular chances.  His era is an incredible .83, with an impressive 1.02 whip.  K-Rod has 21 K’s in 21 innings and 1 win.   There is reason to be cautious given his recent back issue, but he came back (no pun intended) strong and seems to be fine.  Even if he faulters here and there in the second half, he looks like a safe bet to improve upon his 2007 and 2008 ratios, where he put up a 2.81 and 2.24 era and 1.25 and 1.29 whip.

Meanwhile Soria (a personal favorite of mine actually, but not, I think, quite yet at the level of K-Rod) has been injured and Lidge has been a complete mess.  There is still a lot of games to be played, but so far Rodriguez has proven the criticism wrong and appears to be headed to another fine season among the top 3 closers in the game.
